Smell of the Cinnamon Flowers, oil on linen,
60 x 72”, 2022
Study: 10 x 12”

The innards of a flower in my mother’s garden: the thin petals connect with the center, barely holding on. I could pluck them all out. The center is made of tiny black beads, each the size of an ant’s eye. Heads balance nimbly on their   stems, outdoing each other in their tallness. These flowers smell of fresh sheets and snickerdoodles, like cookies tucked into bed.
