Spider Stick (For Protection)
oil on linen, 60 x 72”, 2022
Studies: 10 x 12”, 8 x 10”
In late spring the pathways in the forest were booby-trapped by spiders. Black spiders the size of a fingernail, with spiky bodies and short legs. They wove their invisible setups at mouth-height, waiting in the center like silent fat aunts in lawn chairs. It was after several terrifying run-ins that we decided to arm ourselves.
